Volunteer with us

Volunteers are the lifeblood of much of the work we do at Friends of ANCHOR.

From ensuring our events run without a hitch, to providing a warm welcome and transport services for ANCHOR patients, we do our very best to ensure volunteer opportunities are rewarding, purposeful and enjoyable. However you choose to volunteer, whether it's helping at an event, distributing our magazines in your local area or giving your time for our hospital-based volunteer teams, please know your time is truly appreciated and brings a significant support to our work.

For details on the volunteering roles available, please read on. When you're ready, tap the button below to begin your volunteering application.

Join our Welcome Team

Come on board to provide a warm welcome for patients and their accompanying guests as they arrive in the ANCHOR Unit for treatment. Please note that volunteers should be over the age of 18 to provide this service.
Our next round of interviews for hospital volunteers will be held in January, and we'll be in touch with you before then.
To ensure we provide the best possible support to our patients, and our volunteers, we have a policy in place for any new potential volunteers, which kindly requests that any current or previous ANCHOR patients wait until they are 6 months post-treatment before commencing volunteer roles. Those who are on an ongoing treatment plan who wish to volunteer are welcome to apply, and needs will be assessed on an individual basis. Our volunteer coordinator will be happy to discuss this further, should you wish to consider joining our team.

Be a Spotlight ambassador

Pick up a 'paper round' and help us spread the word about our services and the initiatives we fund! Actively engage with businesses in your local area as you hand out copies of our Spotlight magazine to be stocked in waiting areas, offices, cafes and shops.

Volunteer at our events

Grab a red T-shirt and join us at one of our in-house or affiliated events. Throughout the year, we're on the lookout for volunteers to help us host stalls, marshall races, cheer on our fundraisers, and ensure events run smoothly and successfully.

Patient transport volunteer

This crucial service sees volunteers provide reliable and safe travel for people in the North-east who require transport to get to their treatment appointments at ARI, or at the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow where stem cell and bone marrow transplants are carried out.
A branded car is provided for our 'Driving the Distance' volunteers, and the cost of fuel is fully covered by NHS Grampian, who we run this service in partnership with.
