A local company has made a generous donation to the charity in celebration of the long-service of one its employees.
Taylors Industrial Services donated £10,000 to Friends of ANCHOR to mark employee Rose Beaton’s 58-year anniversary.
The family-run company made the donation at the request of Rose Beaton, in honour and memory of her late daughter, Elaine Beaton. Rose has been with the company since its beginnings in 1962 and has witnessed many changes over this time, working with four family generations. The family ethos of the company has always been at the core of its operation, and Rose is one of many long serving employees there.
Kevin Taylor, operations director for the firm, said: “Rose has been a much-loved part of our family company for an incredible 58 years. In lieu of a gift, Rose chose a charitable donation in memory of her daughter Elaine. Taylors is a family-run company and like so many others, we truly value that. Elaine was very much part of our extended family at Taylors and was known and loved by management and colleagues alike. When she passed away in December the loss was felt by so many, and it’s our honour to make this donation in her memory.”
Rose’s daughter Elaine passed away following a breast cancer diagnosis, for which she received treatment in the ANCHOR Unit. Earlier in the year, bosses at Taylors sat down with Friends of ANCHOR and Rose to decide how the donation could bring support to patients. Now, the money has been ringfenced to purchase wig care packs for patients going through hair loss, with the funds enabling 836 of the packs to be made freely available for those who need one. The packs contain high-quality products to help keep wigs in the best shape possible, including specialist conditioner, spray and shampoo.
Charity director Sarah-Jane Hogg said: “Hair loss can often be one of the most distressing side-effects of treatment, which is why our dedicated hair and wig stylist offers a wig fitting and styling service in addition to cutting and grooming services. While the restrictions are in place at ARI, we’ve had to take this service online to support patients with virtual appointments. Thanks to Taylors, these new packs will be a welcome extension of that service and something we will continue to offer going forward.

Their generosity will allow us to give patients this gift that reminds them that love and support is there for them as they face this difficult part of their cancer treatment.”
The wig care packs will be distributed to patients by the clinical teams in the ANCHOR Unit and will also be available through Friends of ANCHOR ‘Postal Provisions’ service, which launched when the lockdown began. The charity’s wellbeing team is offering support from afar, including hairdresser Heather Dalgarno, who is offering virtual one-to-one sessions to give patients advice and guidance on how to deal with hair loss and regrowth through treatment.
For several years the charity has funded direct support for patients facing hair loss, including the funding of ‘cool cap’ machines which aim to reduce chemotherapy-induced hair loss, nourishing conditioner for dry scalps, and male and female head coverings. The charity’s hairdresser Heather Dalgarno has been in post for seven years on a voluntary basis.
